The e-commerce giant said on Tuesday that it's rolling out same-day delivery of prescription medications in New York City and the greater Los Angeles area. To speed up deliveries, Amazon said it's using new, smaller facilities, stocked with the most common prescription medications for acute conditions. San Bernardino, Riverside and Anaheim, which are all in the LA area, are eligible for same-day prescription deliveries starting Tuesday. Amazon said Tuesday it rang up "record-breaking" sales in the run-up to Cyber Monday as consumers, still pinched by inflation, sought discounts. The company said the period from Nov. 17 to Cyber Monday marked its "biggest ever" holiday shopping event compared to the same 11-day stretch last year. Amazon, which did not disclose actual sales figures, added that shoppers worldwide bought more than 1 billion items during the period. Retailers and analysts were cautious heading into this year's holiday shopping season. While consumers have remained resilient, grocery prices remain high, and the resumption of student loan payments has eaten into some shoppers' holiday budgets.

Amazon 's fall Prime deals bonanza "outpaced" last year's event, the company said Thursday, as discount-hungry consumers got an early jump on holiday shopping. It marks the second year Amazon has held the shopping event, which is a fall follow-up to the company's main Prime Day sale held in July. "Prime Big Deal Days was a strong start to the holiday shopping season, offering Prime members an exclusive early opportunity to save and surpassing our expectations," Doug Herrington, CEO of Worldwide Amazon Stores, said in a statement. "This event outpaced last year's holiday kick-off event, with more Prime members shopping this year." Amazon typically uses its discount events for Prime members to run promotions on its devices.

Amazon announced its plans to double its same-day delivery sites in the coming years. The plans come months after Amazon said it ramped up the pace of some deliveries to "within hours." Amazon is planning to double its number of same-day delivery facilities "in the coming years," the company said in a press release. But more same-day delivery sites could also increase in the number of packages and stops for drivers, which in turn, could lead to harsher working conditions. Rising temperatures could also make the work of delivery drivers harder.
